What im doing now is basically just adjusting the brightness on my monitor manually to whatever i think looks best based on the ambient light and then just starting my Photoshop editing from there.ĭo you folks have your monitor brightness set at the same level all the time, use auto brightness adjust or manually change your brightness on your monitor depending upon the ambient light at any given time? Thank you Trevor, Farzad and Harry very much for the comments and input. The clipped highlights then show as red and the clipped shadows show as blue when you use the exposure and contrast sliders etc., The best way to adjust these options, if you are going to do so, is to show the histogram and activate 'show highlight clipping and show shadow clipping' by clicking on the little triangles in the two top corners of the ACR histogram panel. There's an auto exposure/contrast option in Lightroom and ACR! It still is not super bright but the reasults are not misleading me. With my new Macbook pro, I simply adjust the brightness to about three clicks to full brightness of the screen. With my old and aging Macbook pro I had difficulties with adjusting exposure (not brightness) and I tended to blow some highlights. Rick, is this a Mac thing? I'm not sure what you mean by Auto brightness.Īuto brightness does two things: Adjusts for ambient light and attempts to save energy when running on battery power. I had noticed that sometimes with my auto brightness on that when i looked at the finished edit on a brighter screen that it didnt look quite right.ĭo you use auto brightness when you edit or do you adjust the brightness yourself to your own liking? Lately ive switched back to turning "off" auto brightness on my macbook pro when editing in photoshop and just manually adjusting my brightness with the keyboard to my liking. Ive been going back and forth with this one for a while and would love to hear what you have to say.
